SimpeQ Care is a contracted care service provider. Pine Grove Care Centre is owned by Park Place Seniors Living, who contract our services at their site.

Pine Grove Care Centre is a 75-bed long-term care home located on the North Shore of Kamloops, BC. We are seeking a compassionate, caring, individual who enjoys working with seniors. This position is an opportunity for an individual to gain leadership/management experience. The individual will be working in a unionized environment, but this position will be excluded from the union. This is a great opportunity for professional development for an individual looking to further their career.

The successful candidate for this position must: (1) hold the CSNM designation from an accredited program, (2) be in the process of completing a CSNM designation from an accredited program or (3) be willing to enroll in an accredited program. We are currently recruiting for a part-time permanent position but are also willing to discuss the possibility of full-time permanent employment with the right candidate.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Chief Operations Manager. This position assumes the role of a leader in planning, directing, developing, and managing the food services department. The food services manager is responsible for supporting the food services department to meet and adhere to professional standards, organizational and corporate policies and procedures, and corporate and organizational missions, goals, and values. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the staff working in the support/food services department and will be a key player in promoting teamwork and fostering positive resident outcomes. The ideal candidate for this position will possess the ability to work well with others and be sensitive to their problems, concerns, and goals. Please note that being ‘on call’ in the event of an emergency will be a requirement of this position.

Responsibilities:

• Helps the team to promote and maintain an atmosphere of harmony and a peaceful home-like environment.
• Expectation of knowledge of Hazard Analysis Control Points principles (HACCP).
• Ensures that the food services department is complying with licensing requirements and site-specific policies where applicable.
• Conducts regular meetings with staff to inform educate or discuss changes, or updating of procedures and standards.
• Maintains budget and monitors expenditures for assigned areas.
• Supervises inventory for food requirements. Monitors supplies and resolves discrepancies with suppliers.
• Expectation of knowledge of infection control practices.
• Completes audits in accordance with licensing requirements.
• Supervises work assignments and evaluates the performance of support and food service staff.
• Ensures safety policies and procedures are adhered to.
• Expectation of knowledge of therapeutic diets.
• Ensures resident and personal safety.
• Oversees and updates standards and procedures for assigned areas.
• Participates in the orientation, training, and continuing education of staff.
• Ensures consistent staffing levels.
• Completes probationary and annual performance appraisals.
• Responsible for quality assurance activities such as ensuring correct food-safe temperatures are hot/cold and holding service.
• Completes requisitions for maintenance, housekeeping, and/or laundry repairs and ensures requisitions are addressed by the maintenance department.
• Consults with the clinical dietitian for diet modifications and changes to resident food preferences as required.
• Evaluates resident meal services including tray service and dining rooms to ensure established standards of quality and quantity are maintained. Oversees the preparation, portioning, and/or serving of meals.
• Works with the registered dietician to plan and develop recipes according to the nutritional and therapeutic diet needs of residents.
• Processes diet orders as required by making appropriate menu substitutions for standard, texture-modified, and therapeutic diets. Advises food service employees and the dietitian as required.
• Attends department-related meetings as requested. Discusses appropriate action with the dietitian and relays outcomes to staff.
• Oversees the ordering of all products related to dietary, laundry, housekeeping chemicals, paper products, linens, etc.
• Performs all duties in a manner in which client safety is the focus
• Report any unsafe activities that may cause harm or injury to a client.
• Educates other co-workers/colleagues on the proper safety techniques when there is a possibility of endangering a client
• Observes and corrects any unsafe behavior demonstrated by the client.
• Follows all COVID-19 protocols, policies, and procedures as outlined by the Medical Health Office, Public Health Office, and the Health Authorities.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by Senior Management.

Physical Demands:
This job requires a significant amount of sitting, standing, reaching, walking, lifting, and walking. According to the National Occupational Classification (NOC) definitions, this job is considered “medium”.
• Lifting 50 lbs maximum.
• Frequently lifting and/or carrying objects up to 20 lbs.
• May involve sitting with pushing and pulling or arm and/or leg controls.
• Must be able to handle stressful situations in the workplace.
