Jacqueline Smylie
Jacqueline Smylie is a retired Accreditation and Quality Manager who continues to work part-time as an Accreditation Consultant. She brings more than 35 years of experience in quality improvement, accreditation, patient safety, risk management, and program evaluation across hospital, mental health, home and community care, and federal healthcare settings.
Throughout her career, Jacqueline has held quality and accreditation leadership roles with organizations including Brockville General Hospital, ParaMed Canada, VON Canada, Correctional Service Canada, and Brockville Mental Health Centre. Her work has included the development and coordination of organization-wide accreditation, patient safety, quality improvement, and risk management programs for both inpatient and community-based services. She has also supported evaluation projects involving university researchers and the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
Jacqueline holds an Honours Bachelor of Applied Science in Applied Human Nutrition from the University of Guelph, a Graduate Diploma in Health Services Management from the Canadian Healthcare Association, and a Graduate Certificate in Health Care Risk Management from the Ontario Hospital Association. She has also completed graduate-level studies in health policy and health economics and is a Certified Patient Safety Officer.
Jacqueline has contributed to publications related to quality improvement, accreditation, patient safety, and program evaluation and has presented at national and international conferences. Her experience also includes mentoring healthcare professionals in quality improvement, risk management, and accreditation. As a volunteer Patient and Family Advisory Council member, she has further contributed a patient and family perspective to healthcare quality and service improvement.
