Gillian Martin

Gillian Martin, MEd, BHA, CHIM, is a Professor at Niagara College with more than 20 years of experience across health information management, healthcare administration, quality and patient safety, patient relations, and health services.

Gillian began her healthcare career with Halton Healthcare before moving into health information and analytics roles with Hamilton Health Sciences, ErinoakKids, Halton Region Public Health, and Niagara Health. Her experience has included health information coordination, privacy, business analysis, clinical data analysis, quality improvement, patient safety, and patient relations. At Niagara Health, she progressed through several roles, including NSQIP Analyst, Quality and Patient Safety Specialist, Senior Patient Relations Specialist, and Manager of Switchboard/Resource Centre, On Call Desk and Patient Transport.

Gillian holds a Master of Education in Adult Education and Interprofessional Health from Memorial University and a Bachelor of Health Administration in Health Services Administration from Toronto Metropolitan University, formerly Ryerson University. She is also a Certified Health Information Management professional (CHIM) and a graduate of CHA Learning.

Since 2024, Gillian has served as a Professor at Niagara College, bringing her healthcare experience together with her background in adult education. Her professional experience provides learners with perspectives spanning health information, healthcare quality, patient safety, administration, and the practical application of evidence-informed practices within Canada’s healthcare system.
