Colleen Nixon
Colleen Nixon, BA, CHIM, is a health information professional with more than 30 years of experience spanning health information management, coding and classification, clinical documentation, research, and healthcare data. She currently serves as Operations Manager, Coding Classification & Terminology Standards, IM/IT Clinical Documentation, Audit & Reporting at Nova Scotia Health.
Colleen has spent much of her career specializing in coding and classification. Prior to moving into her current management role in 2023, she served as a Coding Classification Specialist with Nova Scotia Health for 25 years. Her experience also includes coding roles in Prince Edward Island and work as a Medical Coder with the Public Health Agency of Canada. Earlier in her career, she contributed to research initiatives with Dalhousie University and Cardiovascular Health Nova Scotia.
Colleen holds a Bachelor of Arts from Dalhousie University and a Health Records Diploma from the Halifax Infirmary School of Health Record Science. She holds the Certified in Health Information Management (CHIM) designation.
Since 2018, Colleen has served as a Faculty Advisor for CHA Learning’s Coding Classification Specialist Program. She draws on her extensive coding and classification experience to support the development of health information professionals and share practical knowledge gained throughout her career.
