Richard Mansfield

Richard Mansfield is a retired health information professional who continues to work as a casual Coder and Data Analyst at the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia. He has more than 30 years of experience in health information management and medical coding, including more than two decades with the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia.

Richard began his health information career as the sole-charge Health Records Administrator at Alert Bay Hospital before moving into coding roles at Richmond Hospital and Trail Hospital. In 1999, he joined the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia, where he worked as a Coder and Data Analyst until his retirement from full-time employment in 2022. Throughout his coding career, he has worked with a broad range of clinical cases and has extensive experience applying ICD-10-CA and CCI classifications.

Richard completed the Health Records Administration Program at Douglas College and holds the Certified Classification and Coding Specialist (CCCS) credential, which he earned in 2020 as part of one of the early cohorts to complete the Coding Specialist Program and certification examination. He also holds a Master of Pest Management from Simon Fraser University and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Victoria.

Following completion of the CCCS credential, Richard joined CHA Learning as a faculty member, drawing on his extensive coding experience and knowledge of the Coding Specialist Program to support health information professionals developing advanced coding and classification skills.
